Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
No. You do not need a doctor’s referral to see our Doctor of Audiology, audiologist.
What is the difference between a Doctor of Audiology and other hearing providers?
The main difference is the level of education and training. Hearing Instrument Specialists (H.I.S.) usually complete 2 to 3 years of college training. Audiologists complete advanced university training at the master’s or doctoral level, usually 6 to 8 years.
Are your services covered by OHIP?
No. Private audiology services are not covered by OHIP. Hearing devices may be eligible for ADP funding, and we provide a receipt for insurance submission.
Why do some clinics offer free hearing tests?
Many free hearing tests are offered through hearing-aid sales models, often in hearing-device retail stores (over 90% of hearing clinics). Ottawa Hears Audiology is different. We are an independent audiology clinic, led by a Doctor of Audiology, audiologist, not tied to any hearing-device manufacturer. Our focus is advanced audiological care, ear and hearing health, diagnostics, tinnitus care, and personalized recommendations.
How much do hearing aids cost?
For many people, better hearing is more affordable than expected — often comparable to the cost of a daily cup of coffee. Hearing devices typically range from approximately $250 to $5,700, depending on the technology level, style, features, and your individual hearing needs. We also offer 0% in-house financing options.
Is the clinic wheelchair accessible?
Yes. We are located on the main floor and are wheelchair accessible, with spacious free parking.
